Almost a mile-long sandy beach very close to South Lake Tahoe, Pope Beach is very attractive in the summer. First of all, the parking lot (entrance fee required) is quite large, so there is almost always a chance to find a spot for your car. Another good thing about this beach is the pine grove stretched alongside the sand providing much-needed shade, a protection from the mountain summer sun. But wear sunscreen anyway, as it doesn't take long to get a sunburn. Remember, you are 6200 feet above sea level!

The water on Pope beach is usually cooler than on Sand Harbor Beach, because the lake bottom is steeper, but it still allows for a splash. As summers are getting warmer every year, the lake is warming up as well. It's not so good for the ecosystem, but somewhat nice for the beach goers.

This beach is equipped with nice, large bathrooms and picnic tables scattered along the shoreline.  As of 2019 no dogs are allowed.

In past years they've added kayak/paddle board rentals, and we love that!

It's also a good place to watch the sunset.
