Meeks Bay campground is the one of our favorite places to stay in the Summer. Relatively small with around 40 campsites, Meeks Bay campground is tucked between the road and beach and consists of two loops. The loop closest to the highway is obviously more noisy, but there isn’t too much traffic at night. If you like to sleep in longer, try to get a spot on the inner loop - it’s also more shady. The main advantage of this campground is location. The beach is within a 5 minute walk from any site. We used to bring with us our inflatable kayak and carry it every day from our campsite to the beach. There is a kayak and paddle board rental nearby, so if you do not have your own, no problem!

Meeks Bay is very conveniently situated: it’s a very short drive to Rubicon Point trailhead, Emerald Bay, Sugar Pine Point State Park with all its trails, and an 18 minute drive to Tahoe City. Just keep in mind that your camping spot has to be booked well in advance since this place is very popular. And be sure to bring some warm clothes, especially in June and August. Nights at this elevation can get very chilly.
